This luscious, rich syrup can be poured over waffles, French toast or pancakes, spooned over ice cream, spread over hot cinnamon rolls and sprinkled with chopped nuts, or packaged in an attractive jar to give as a special homemade gift.
3/4 cup Darigold Buttermilk
3/4 cup sugar
1/2 cup (1 stick) Darigold butter
2 tablespoons corn syrup
1 teaspoon baking soda
2 teaspoons vanilla extract*
Place buttermilk, sugar, butter, corn syrup and baking soda into heavy 3-quart or larger saucepan. Bring mixture to a boil; cook 5 to 7 minutes, or until mixture coats the back of a metal spoon. (Do not overcook or it will become candy.) Remove from heat; stir in vanilla. Makes about 2 cups.
*Substitute a favorite flavoring if desired: rum, brandy, orange liqueur.
